We live near an Operation Christmas Child processing center, so we went there for a fun service project. Over a million shoeboxes come to this warehouse to be checked and processed before being shipped around the world as gifts to children.
Once we were trained we started our work. The first people open the box and take out any money for shipping costs and deposit it in the money box. They also look for things that can't be shipped: liquids, candy, toothpaste or weapons. The next people wrap the box with tape to seal it shut. The last people scan the QR code so the sender can follow the gift to the country where it is being sent.
The day we were there, the presents were being sent to Peru, Columbia and Ukraine. We had a lot of fun. Some scouts weren't too good with the tape and kept getting stuck with it. At the end of the day, they said our center had processed 112,000 boxes that day.
Merry Christmas
