Beach Sweep in the Rain

Troop 130 went to Beach Sweep again. This year a couple of leaders and some scouts went down early to set up the tents, so we didn't have to do that in the dark. It was also going to rain the first night, so the tents were up before the rain started.

The first night was bad. The rain really poured. All the new tents that the scouts were in stayed dry, but the leaders weren't so lucky. Ms. Laura's tent really leaked. And Ms. Ellen's tent fell over on her. They both spent the night in their cars.

Our day cleaning the beach was rainy and windy. The trash bags kept trying to blow away. But we all pitched in and cleaned up anyway. We found a lot of cigarette butts like last year. We did fill five bags about 1/4-1/3 full of trash. We decided to focus on the playground area since another group had already gone to the beach. We found lots of bottle lids, balloon pieces and food wrappers. When the storm got worse and we could see lightning, we headed back to camp.

We decided to make lunch under the dining flies. After lunch, the storms went away and the rest of the campout was pretty cool. We went to the water park for the afternoon. We went to the mini-golf area and rented some boats. We just got to hang out a lot.
