So, when you are going to hike at Congaree National Forest in the spring...CALL THE RANGERS before you head out. The website is maintained by a bunch of people in Washington DC and they have no idea if the trails are flooded or not. Since this forest is in a flood plain, the trails are often underwater in the spring. But if you wait until summer, the mosquitoes will eat you alive. So take your chances and go in the spring.

Even though our planned hike had to be shortened, we still managed to get in 10 miles by making a large loop of several trails and then reversing and walking it again backwards.

This is a cool park. There is a lot of wildlife here. We didn't see river otters because the river was so high. But we did see a cool snake sunning himself on a log.
