We invited the Arrow of Light cub scouts to join us for our October Campout. They have to do an outdoor activity with the troop to earn the Arrow of Light. We thought this would be fun.

We camped at Dan Nicholas Park in Rowan County. This park has a special camping site just for scouts. It has a big firepit for campfire ceremonies and a smaller firepit that we could cook in. There is a covered porch with plenty of picnic tables where we could eat our meals. They even have a concrete ping pong table that was perfect for setting up our camp stoves.

Since it was Halloween weekend, we decided to carve pumpkins. We made sure everyone knew pocketknife safety before letting anyone carve a pumpkin. We used glow sticks to light up the pumpkins at night and they looked really spooky.

We had a "one-match" challenge when the scouts tried to build the campfire. Only Pratham was able to get his fire going for more than 2 minutes only using one match.

Two scouts were in charge of the campfire program. We had some really funny skits. Even the AOL scouts helped put on the show. Then we got serious. We retired 4 flags that had been donated to our troop. We said some nice words and then burned them in our blazing fire.
